Mount Shirouma (白馬岳) (Chubusangaku National Park) is located in the northern part of the Northern Alps in Japan, one of Japan’s best and most scenic hikes.
We hiked this trail in July 2023 over 2 days.
This trail starts at Sarukuraso Lodge and goes through the Hakuba Daisekkei Gorge which is considered Japan's largest snowy gorge. We climbed up to the summit of Mt. Shirouma at sunset and stayed overnight at Hakuba Sanso Lodge.
The next day, we descended via Hakuba Daisekkei and Mount Norikura. We ended the hike at Tsugaike Nature Park, where we took the cable car to the valley.
It was one of our favorite hikes and we recommend this one over the overcrowded Fuji hike.
